What Emily Plunkett loves about working at HPHH

Emily grew up in regional Queensland and has always been passionate about helping people and animals. Growing up and to this day, she calls herself a ‘massive horse kid’.

“Because of this, I was actually self-employed for the last 8 years [prior to joining Happy Paws Happy Hearts] as an Equine Sports and Remedial Therapist in Townsville,” Emily says.

“I am fully qualified and still dabble with it when I am not at Happy Paws. I have a Certificate of Equine Sports Therapy, Diploma in Animal Tactile Therapy and a Diploma in Equine Acupuncture. I am also currently studying a Certificate in Canine Myofunctional therapies which I hope to finish sometime at the end of the year.”

She joined Happy Paws Happy Hearts (HPHH) Toowoomba 9 months ago as a Program Trainer because her values aligned perfectly with our mission: to connect socially isolated people and rescue animals.

Her favourite animal is ‘anything with 4 feet and a tail’. She loves the changes she sees in the humans and animals at HPHH – always for the better – and the positive experiences she facilitates.

Emily is honoured to be able to assist the rescue dogs at RSPCA Toowoomba on their adoption journey.

“[I love] being able to assist and witness the changes in the dogs that come into our sessions and when they find their forever homes,” Emily says.

“It’s also an honour to earn the trust of the participants.”

Emily is extremely kind and sweet, but she is not one to mess with! She is a 2nd Dan (2nd Degree) in Karate and a Black Singlet in Muay Thai – the most advanced level.

She decided to take up martial arts because she wanted to do something different and build her confidence. Emily says: “I needed some confidence as I was always the shy kid and bullied a bit in school.”

If Emily could be any animal, it would be a panda so that ‘snacking and napping’ could be life. In her spare time, you will find her with her husband spending time with their horses and dogs. She’s currently building her connection with her young horse which makes her smile ‘when he chooses to hang out’.

Her best advice she wanted to share is: “If you let kindness lead the way, you can’t lose.” Her drink of choice is coffee and if she could visit any fictional place, she would pick Narnia. So, if you want to drink a coffee with Emily, pop in to HPHH Toowoomba or call our Enrolment Team on 1300 077 984.
