Why HPHH makes Cale feel ‘sensational’

Cale has been attending HPHH for 6 years. In that time, he has worked with countless dogs – his favourite animal – and has developed excellent dog-handling skills.

He currently attends his weekly Train sessions and was invited to join our employment pathway program Explore in Semester 1 2023. He recently celebrated his graduation and completed his work placement at a local veterinary clinic, Our Vet Macgregor.

In the 6-month period, he signed up for and completed over 50% of his Certificate II in Animal Care. As a part of his certificate, he completed 60 hours of work experience at Our Vet Macgregor who supported him beautifully throughout his placement. He said his placement became ‘the highlight of his week’.

In addition, he travelled to Adelaide for a Bowling Competition, improved his presentation skills and built ‘so much’ confidence.

His favourite part about HPHH is all the animal encounters and learning new skills.

“In my second year [at HPHH], we went to Lone Pine. We made enrichment toys for all the animals and got to hang out with a lot of cool animals. I loved the Dingo,” Cale says.

Cale is proud that he has applied the animal care and handling skills he learned at HPHH at home. For example, he taught his dogs how to shake and how to do other tricks.

He says that HPHH makes him feel ‘sensational’ because of the animal interactions.

“[I have] grown more of a love for animals,” he says.

Cale would recommend HPHH to others ‘in a heartbeat’. We are so proud of all that Cale has achieved in his time with HPHH and know he will do great things in the animal care industry.
