Wacol’s top-dog Dennis isn’t held back by his three legs

Dennis in his office bed after a long day of sessions, helping our participants learn and become more confident.

Hi, I’m Dennis. I’m the resident (D)OG on-site at Happy Paws Happy Hearts. My mum, Di, is a vet at the RSPCA in Wacol. I was in an accident years ago, and my mum saved my life. It was love at first sight, for both of us! Unfortunately, I lost my leg, but I gained a new family – including those at Happy Paws Happy Hearts.

I have separation anxiety, which is why my mum started bringing me into the office when she was at work. Over time, I’ve become ‘top dog’ around the office. I’m always keeping an eye on things and ensuring that everything runs smoothly, when I’m not taking a nap or going to the bathroom outside. I also keep the visiting pups in check – those pesky young whipper snappers.

I hang out with the Happy Paws Happy Hearts crew and even join the classes sometimes. Since I lost my leg, I have special osteo needs, which I teach the participants about when I’m in-session. My time at Happy Paws has made me a more social dog, and I help my fellow humans with their anxiety and social isolation by being my ‘fur-vacious’ self. I’ve gotta say, I’m in high demand; there is a sign that says whether I’m on-site or not, because the people love me and want to say “hello”. My sign says, ‘the dentist is in’ and I enjoy spending time with those who stop by for a visit.

I love belly rubs, going for walks and getting nice and dirty when I’m out and about. I may have three legs, but I still run around, I can sit and lie down (especially for some tummy love – pats or treats). I live a pretty good life, thanks to my mum and being able to come into Happy Paws Happy Hearts when she’s at work. I’m easy going and super friendly, and I’m always happy to get attention from everyone and anyone.

If you’re ever at Happy Paws Happy Hearts Wacol and want to connect, be sure to come and say “hi” to me!
