From the classroom to the real world: How HPHH prepares our participants for success

At HPHH, we are honoured to help so many ‘paw-some’ people on their journey with us. Some come to enjoy the company of our paws and hearts, while others come to prepare themselves for return-to-life pathways in our employment pathway program, Explore.

Explore was born out of a need expressed by our participants. Many made their way through our programs and were ready to take the next steps into further study, volunteering or work but needed a little extra help before they took the leap. We listened and created the exclusive program to equip participants with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to pursue their ideal futures.

Sprinkled with the magic of HPHH – meaning there are lots of furry, feathered and scaly critters to help along the way – we teach our participants in ways that are easy to understand and, most importantly, fun! Our Explore participants attend their weekly sessions, sometimes in addition to another program session with us, and a weekly case management aspect to provide them with some extra support.

We invited a select group of incredible people to join us in Explore for Semester 1, 2023 at HPHH Wacol. We are proud to share that seven participants graduated from Explore and are ready to tackle the world outside HPHH. We can’t wait to see them thriving in their upcoming work placements facilitated through HPHH and to watch all their hard work and dedication pay off. From aspiring mechanics to veterinary assistants to photographers – we have a very talented bunch of people among us.

We want to share some highlights from our ‘wonder-fur-l' cohort so you can see a sneak-peak of what they got up to.

  • They all visited Suited for Success and chose interview outfits – which they got to keep and wear to future job interviews and professional meetings.

  • Wearing their new business attire from above, they visited DNR for mock interviews and smashed it out of the park.

  • They listened to guest speakers talk about different industries – such as animal care and banking – to glimpse potential career paths.

  • They learned how to write their resumes by writing one for one of our rescue dogs, Cheese. This taught them how to sell themselves on their resume, and helped Cheese get adopted.

To celebrate their graduation in HPHH style, 'every-bunny' joined together for a fun-filled party. They reflected on their experiences in the program, received their certificates, wore graduation hats filled with chocolates, danced to music, drank fizzy drinks and even ate pizza.

From everyone at HPHH, a ‘furry’ big congratulations to the Explore Cohort from Semester 1, 2023. We are so incredibly proud of you and everything you have achieved. A big shoutout to our Program Trainers, Sarah and Claudia and our Senior Case Manager, Katy, for guiding our participants on these new exciting pathways.
