How writing a resume helped Terry the Staffy find his forever home

Hi everyone, my name is Terry. I’m a one-year-old Staffy currently living in the Hunter Valley Animal Facility and Rehoming Centre (HVAFARC). I’ve been waiting for my forever home since I was a little puppy. I just know that one day I’ll find my perfect family because I love adventures, people, dogs, cats, children - pretty much anyone who will give me some attention.

This is precisely why I love HPHH so much – it's my favourite place in the world! I’ve attended sessions regularly since I was a baby, facilitating positive experiences for socially isolated people and animal lovers. In my sessions, I have learned social skills and obedience training. I’m told I am as smart as they come. I know how to sit, drop, shake, heel, stay and come. I’m also crate trained, and I’m toilet trained. So, if my forever family is out there reading this: firstly, I love you, and secondly, you don’t have to worry about puppy pre-school.

The HPHH participants and trainers always give me lots of treats and pats. I love going to sessions so much that I’ve become a bit of a serial escape artist at the shelter. I will escape from my enclosure and run straight to the classroom hoping to find my favourite people. But you don’t have to worry about me running away. I’m just trying to find my friends.

It can be hard living in the shelter. Since I have a lot of experience, I share my knowledge with another puppy who is having a hard time coping in the facility named Bernadette (Bernie). I’m also a mentor to lots of other puppies – I teach them how to socialise and navigate the facility. Like I said, I have a lot of experience. It’s the only home I’ve ever known.

UPDATE: In Explore, our participants wrote a resume for Terry showcasing his skills and personality. This, in turn, helps participants understand how to write their own resume.

Off the back of his resume being shared, Terry has finally been adopted after over a year in the shelter. We hope you’re enjoying your home with your forever family, Terry!
