Celebrating Harmony and Cultural Diversity at HPHH
Harmony Week is a uniquely Australian celebration that promotes harmony and unity among all cultures. This coincides with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Radical Discrimination, which is on 21 March.
From 18 to 24 March, Harmony Week is a time to celebrate multiculturism in Australia and Happy Paws Happy Hearts is excited to fetch some ‘paws-itive’ vibes and join in the chorus of diversity!
Australia’s population is culturally and ethnically diverse. According to the Australian Government, one in four or 28% of the current Australian population were born overseas. First Nations and immigrant households are on the rise, demonstrating the importance of celebrating this unique holiday.
Why Harmony Week?
Harmony Day falls on 21 March annually, to celebrate the importance cultural respect and inclusiveness of everyone who calls Australia their home. In other words, it is a date to promote harmony among all Australians; to acknowledge that while we might come from different backgrounds, ethnicities or cultures, we are all Australian and deserve to be treated with respect, kindness and acceptance.
At Happy Paws Happy Hearts, we celebrate inclusion and diversity across cultures. We support Harmony week as it embodies our commitment to inclusivity, celebrating the richness of diversity, fostering unity and support within our community.
Australia is one of the most culturally and linguistically diverse countries in the world! Home to people from more than 300 different ancestries, it is clear to see why Harmony Day is such an important date to celebrate.
How HPHH celebrates Harmony Week
At HPHH, we believe that all people – no matter where their ancestors are from or how they identify – should be treated equally, with respect and dignity.
Every week is like Harmony Week at HPHH. We are always celebrating and championing our incredible participants on their journeys with us, many of whom are first or second generation migrants to Australia. From Poland to England to First Nations Australians, we are proud to welcome people from all walks of life and cultures to our inclusive, safe environment.
This Harmony Week, we’ll be wearing orange to support the important time of acceptance and peace among all people. In a world that can be divided, HPHH is always a safe space for people to come together and bond over their shared love of animals.
